Interesting Times Ahead... Some interesting dates for your diary:
Could those who haven't already entered the Criterion Lottery Draw, please consider it as a fun way to raise funds for the theatre, for a monthly donation of £5 per number. To apply for a number contact Mike Tooley at mike_tooley@hotmail.com. The bar will be open from 8pm for the lottery draw. Readings and Auditions Blue Remembered Hills by Dennis Potter Directed by Geoff Bennett Reading: Sunday 6th July, 7:30pm; Audition: Sunday 13th July, 2:30pm; Play Dates: 12th - 15th November 2008 Blue Remembered Hills is a remarkable play. Why is this? First of all the characters are 7 year old children; and second, these children are all playing adults. Which means a glorious chance for actors to tackle a once-in-a-lifetime part. How many adult actors have the chance to create a 7 year old child? All his emotions, the awareness of her constricted, boundless world, the uninhibited shyness, the frustration and protection of adult authority, the exploration of unknown territory, the intensity of wanting everything immediately NOW! The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer Directed by Bill Butler Reading: Monday 7th July, 7:30pm; Audition: Sunday 13th July, 7:30pm; Play Dates: 6th - 13th December 2008 Shakespeare may be turning in his grave, but the show that's become a cult classic contains all 37 plays (plus sonnets) in just 97 minutes. As the comedies aren't anywhere near as funny as the tragedies, all sixteen have been condensed into 'Four Weddings and a Transvestite', the history plays are transformed into a game of football, Othello is performed in rap and Titus Andronicus becomes a TV cookery programme. For the finale, Hamlet is staged first as a psychological exploration of Hamlet's Ego and Ophelia's Id, then performed in a matter of minutes and, for the finale, performed backwards. For lovers of Shakespeare everywhere. Workshops Directing A Play by Geoff Bennett A 5 session series of workshops for first-time directors (also for second-time, third-time or many-time directors), all are welcome. I can take a maximum of 5 directors. This is because each director needs 2 actors to direct. This gives a total of 15 people on the workshops, which is a comfortable number to work with. Each group of three will be given a script to develop from cold print to performance - in 5 sessions of step-by-step gentle progression. Each director will need to recruit 2 actors (1 male, 1 female, both between 20 and 60) to work with him/her. Please "sign up" to let us know who, and how many will be on the workshops. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
