Thank You

The Vintage Wardrobe Sale held at the Theatre raised an incredible £1125.00 towards our funds.

The Foyer and Bar were packed with bargain-hunters from the moment we opened and a large number of them had never been in the Criterion before. We also sold £40 plus of second hand books that we left on display after the monthly coffee morning.

Well done to Maureen and Pam who worked so hard to organise the event and also to their many willing helpers who coped with the onslaught.

Godiva Award: We Won

TV celebrity Jane Middlemiss gave out the awards at a glitzy bash at Warwick Arts Centre on the 22nd October.

The Godiva Awards were developed by CV One and sponsored by a number of organisations.

Wardrobe renovation and vintage sale

The renovations of wardrobe storage are now finished so many thanks to Maureen, Pam and volunteer helpers. We are planning to hold a sale of surplus, vintage costumes and jewellery on Saturday 7 November from 2 to 5pm.

Maureen and Pam would love to hear from those who want to help with the sale and controlling the crowds. Look out for more sale publicity at the theatre.

More theatre bar volunteers wanted

Thanks to the bar staff regulars who kept the bar open during the roof replacement. But come on all those members who have never raised the shutters, pulled a pint, changed an optic and called 'Time!'

The bar is open on Wednesday, Friday and the first Sunday of the month from 8.30pm and during the run of a play from 7pm. Please contact John Barnes (johnbarnes004@tiscali.co.uk) if you can help behind the bar at any of these times.

Training is provided as necessary by the team, including Brad Pitt or Halle Berry when available.

New Roof

After 125 years, the theatre building has a new roof and we can start to realise the full stage area potential.

I would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who helped over the past few weeks to get the theatre ready for It Can Damage Your Health following the re-roofing.

It was major team effort and I was very pleased with the response. We intend to continue our improvement and publicity work and hopefully, you will be able to give some of your time to help again if you are asked.
Thank you

The New Roof work in picutres.

Criterion in the community

We are continually being recognised for our role in the local community and these are our recent achievements, for which we are grateful:

  • The ECHO has awarded us their 30th anniversary community award which is nominated for and voted by their readers
  • The Rochester Road Residents Association has donated £100 towards our current refurbishment
  • The Tile Hill branch of the Coventry Building Society is supporting season leaflet distribution and general theatre promotion.

Join us in the Wardrobe!

How do you fancy helping to dress the cast of a production? The Wardrobe Team are looking for new members to join them in creating, making, hiring or re-cycling production costumes, as a member of the backstage team that 'gets the show on the road' over a period of six weeks.

No previous experience is required but anyone interested will need quick wits, enthusiasm and a sense of humour. So if you're a member of our audience or company or you know someone who is interested in being involved please get in touch with either Pam or Maureen who will be around to give advice or support if you need it.

Technical Call

The Company members list shows phone numbers for members interested in Lighting, but I know some people would like to be contacted by e-mail, it would also be handy for sending rehearsal schedules and so forth.

If you would prefer to be contacted this way then send an e-mail to chieflx@ianknight.me.uk and I'll create a mailing list with you on it and start circulating crew lists and schedules to those interested in operating and rigging lighting.
Ian - Head of Lighting

Publicity Team

I'm continually grateful to the loyal team of supporters who help to produce and distribute our publicity material throughout the year. If you are keen to get involved in the publicity side of the theatre or you are on the team and want to take specific responsibility for an item then please send me an email at Christine.Ingall@lsc.gov.uk
Chris - Head of Publicity

Reminders

The Theatre Diary is displayed in the Cloakroom area and no-one should assume that space within the theatre is available to let or use unless they check with the diary first. Lettings must be cleared with Linda Holmes before being agreed.

Please help the theatre and our finances by paying your annual membership subscriptions by standing order with Nat West Bank. Refer to the newsletter for details.

Criterion Lottery Draw and Quiz Night

If you haven't already entered the Criterion Lottery Draw, and many of you haven't, please remember that this is a fun way to raise funds for the theatre.

For a monthly donation of £5 (for each number) you will help to maintain existing facilities and our high production standards, while future plans are developed.

Please complete and return the Standing Order Mandate by the 12th of the month preceding the draw to subscribe. For a copy of the appropriate forms contact Mike Tooley (mike_tooley@hotmail.com).
