Criterion Support for the Launch of the Earlsdon Carnegie Community Library
13th March

From the start of April the Earlsdon Carnegie Community Library (ECCL) will be run entirely by volunteers. Following the withdrawal of council funding, a committed band of volunteers pledged to keep the library open. This led to the formation of a community library run by a board of trustees.

The Criterion Theatre is proud to be supporting this new project and  will be contributing to the events being organised for the launch weekend. On Saturday morning 6th April the two Children's Drama Classes will be performing in the library (Under 12s at 10.30a.m.; 12 - 14 year olds at 11.15 a.m.).

At midday on Saturday 6th the best-selling author Jonathan Coe and award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies will be joining Chris Arnot for a talk about their careers as professional writers. Then, starting at 1.30p.m., three of our actors: Hugh Sorrill, Nicol Cortese and Andrew Tyrer, will be reprising the roles they played in last year's Jazz Concert and performing a tribute to Coventry-born poet, jazz enthusiast and professional librarian Philip Larkin entitled 'Larkin in the Library' celebrating his local connections and his achievements as a writer.

During the weekend there will many other events taking place in or near the library including live music and various children's activities. So do join us and help to make the launch event a great success. For more information consult the Earlsdon Carnegie Community Library website:  earlsdonlibrary.org.uk
